Holding the Hand That Holds You
“He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.”
— Isaiah 40:11
It’s Sunday morning, and let’s be honest: you’ve probably already negotiated three peace treaties, found a missing shoe in the freezer, and wondered if your second cup of coffee counts as a spiritual discipline. Some days, motherhood feels less like a “calling” and more like an endurance sport where the finish line keeps moving. You give and you give, often until your own tank is flashing red. But look at that verse again. God isn’t standing over you with a clipboard, checking off your chores or counting the crumbs under the high chair. He isn’t demanding you run faster. Instead, He “gently leads those that have young.” He knows you’re carrying the weight of little souls, teenage attitudes, and the ever-present “mental load.” He sees the invisible work you do. Today, you don't have to be the strongest person in the room. You can just be the lamb. Let Him carry the heavy things for a while. Your worth isn't in your productivity, but in whose you are. Breathe out the guilt, and breathe in His quiet, steady grace.
Lord, thank You for seeing the tired parts of my heart that I try to hide. Help me lean into Your strength today instead of trying to carry it all myself. Amen.
