Finding Quiet in the Middle of Loud
“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”
— Zephaniah 3:17
It’s Saturday, and if your house is anything like mine, the 'rest' we were promised for the weekend currently looks like a mountain of grass-stained jerseys and a mysterious sticky patch on the kitchen floor. You’ve been the referee, the snack-fetcher, the taxi driver, and the human napkin since 6:00 AM. It’s easy to feel like your value is tied to how well you manage the chaos or how many chores you cross off the list. But take a breath and look at Zephaniah 3:17. It says God is 'in your midst.' He isn't standing on the sidelines with a clipboard, grading your parenting or your housekeeping. He is right there in the thick of the clutter, rejoicing over you. Not the version of you that has it all together, but the real you—the one with the messy bun and the third cup of cold coffee. He wants to 'quiet you by His love.' Today, you don't have to earn His delight by being productive. Even if the only thing you finish today is a load of towels, He is literally singing a song of joy over you. Let that sink in while you scrape the oatmeal off the table. You are deeply loved, Mom.
Lord, thank You for being right here in the middle of my messy Saturday. Quiet my racing heart with Your love today and help me hear the song You’re singing over me. Amen.
