You Are Held Even on Hard Mondays
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
— Lamentations 3:22-23
Monday again. The laundry you folded on Friday has somehow reproduced overnight, someone can't find their left shoe, and you haven't finished your first cup of coffee yet. Friend, I see you standing in the kitchen looking like you already need a nap and the day hasn't technically started.
Here's the thing about this verse — it wasn't written from a cozy place. Lamentations is literally a book of grief. The person writing these words was exhausted, surrounded by ruins, wondering if God had forgotten him entirely. And right in the middle of that honest, messy despair, he lands on this: the mercies are NEW. Every. Single. Morning.
Not recycled. Not the leftover mercy from last Tuesday when you handled everything beautifully. Brand new. This Monday morning mercy is just for today — for the shoe search, the attitude at the breakfast table, and whatever comes next. You don't have to earn it or explain yourself. It's already here, waiting for you, just like it was yesterday and will be tomorrow.
God, I need your new mercy today — not the version of me I wish I were, but the actual me, standing here half-awake and already behind. Thank you that your love doesn't run out even when my patience does. Hold me close today, and help me pass a little of that grace along.
